Globalisation and regulatory changes are providing challenges across the utilities sector as companies pursue new models of value creation. Some strategies fiercely reinforce the traditional integrated utility strength of owning production and distribution whilst others seek competitive advantage by concentrating on a particular part of the delivery chain. The sector is on a journey of rapid change, change which is being dictated partly by rapid developments in technology with the traditional image of the utilities sector being transformed as the interdependence of the utility and technology sectors becomes more critical.
