Northern Ireland Electricity - Business Analysis Services
Project Title: NIE Enduring Solution
Value: In 2007 new processes and systems were implemented within NIE and NIE Energy Supply (NIEES) to meet the requirements for a fully competitive electricity retail market and to support the All Island Single Electricity (wholesale) Market.
The current solution consists of several new systems and legacy systems and has a number of constraints in terms of capacity and functionality that limit its ability to provide a long term solution to support the enduring competitive market arrangement.
The Utility Regulator has requested that NIE review the existing systems and define the requirements for an Enduring Solution that will fully support a dynamic retail market environment
The Enduring Solution will provide for full business separation between NIE and NIEES and allow for unlimited switching capacity between suppliers as well as supporting a range of future policy options relating to further market development.
Objective: NIE and NIEES intend to jointly contract with a system integrator (SI) to act as the prime contractor for the supply of software products and system integration services for the Enduring Solution. Key objectives of the Enduring Solution are to identify the legacy applications that need to be replaced and to define the requirements for the additional functionality that is to be introduced.
Solution: Neueda provided the business analysis services to NIE for the requirements gathering phase of the project.
The Neueda consultants facilitated workshops with the NIE business representatives using Business Process Modeling techniques to document the current and improved business processes.
Detailed NIE business requirements for the Enduring Solution were defined within a Request for Procurement (RFP) document that was released to prospective SIs.
